The homeowners' goals
The homeowners wanted a bright, clean shade structure that kept the backyard feeling open and coastal, and they did not want another wood structure to maintain.
Site conditions & the challenge
Just blocks from the ocean, this Huntington Beach home faced constant salt air and strong afternoon sun. Wood would have needed regular sealing, and untreated metal would have started to corrode.
Design & engineering
Our louvered aluminum pergolas use adjustable louvers that open for sun and airflow or close for shade and rain protection, on a powder-coated aluminum frame that never needs sealing or repainting.
We specified a white (RAL 9010) louvered aluminum pergola with a marine-grade powder coating that resists salt, moisture and UV. The adjustable louvers give the homeowners full control of sun and shade, while the crisp white finish keeps the space bright.
Integrated drainage in the frame carries rainwater away from the seating area when the louvers are closed.
Permits, engineering & HOA
As with every Rinova Turnkey Project, the paperwork was ours, not the homeowners'. We prepared PE-stamped, permit-ready engineered drawings for this Huntington Beach site — footings, post loads and the structure's wind exposure — and handled the city permit process. Where a homeowners' association is involved, we prepare the architectural submittal and answer the board's questions so the design clears review.
