Installation FAQ

Do I need a permit to install an aluminum pergola in California?

Most Orange County cities require a building permit for a permanent freestanding structure over 120 square feet, and almost always for any wall-attached structure or one with electrical. Motorized pergolas with 110V wiring generally require an electrical permit as well. Rinova pulls permits as part of every turnkey installation.

Can I install a Rinova pergola myself?

Yes. Terra manual louvered pergolas are the most DIY-friendly since no electrical work is involved. Venta motorized units require a licensed electrician for the 110V connection in most jurisdictions.

What surface can a pergola be anchored to?

An existing concrete slab at least 4 inches thick is ideal. Pavers, decking and bare soil require poured footings sized to local code and soil conditions.

What tools do I need?

Hammer drill with masonry bits, torque wrench, 4' level, chalk line, socket set, impact driver — and a second set of hands. Concrete anchors and hardware ship with every Rinova pergola kit.
